Q: Good Morning, I have a great pattern for a fairisle hat, knit in road to china light yarn, unfortunately, this is far too expensive for me, is there any other yarn you would recommend that's comparable to rtcl yarn? Thank you for your help.

  A: Hi Annette,
  The price of RTCL is about 9.7 cents per yard (cpy). There are a few other yarns you could use that would save a bit of money - although the blends are not going to be the same as the RTCL. These suggestions are sport or dk weight yarns and you would need to adjust needle size to get the gauge for your pattern. (1) Manos Silk Blend is 8.6 cpy and is a lovely blend of merino wool and silk. (2) Debbie Bliss Rialto is merino wool and 8.7 cpy. (3) Debbie Bliss Prima is bamboo and merino wool and is 6.8 cpy. (4) SMC Juvel is machine washable wool and is just 5.2 cpy. (5) Brown Spun Nature Spun Sport is 100% wool and just 2.2 cpy.
