Plymouth Encore Worsted Yarn
Plymouth Encore is our most popular worsted weight yarn. It feels soft and wooly but is a blend of acrylic and wool, and works for both people who are allergic to wool and those who don't generally like acrylics. Very durable, high quality yarn available in a large color range. This yarn is available in several of our knitting kits, and requires size 8 US knitting needles.

Q: I'm knitting a Encore 8 hour baby blanket with the Plymouth Encore Worsted Yarn. I use 4 balls -- 2 balls of 2 different colors. Which other pink will go with the Pink twist yarn? Thanks.

A: The Encore Pink Twist (#1006) has 3 different colors plied together to create the twist effect. If you wish to match one of these use Bubble Gum (#449) or White (#208) as these colors both appear in the Pink Twist. If you wish to add more contrast, Pale Pink (#29) or Pink (#137), would look great. Pale pink would be lovely for a younger baby and the brighter Pink would be great for an older child.

Q: I am converting a pattern that calls for 10 skeins of yarn that are 3 oz.(85Grams)90yds skeins. How many skeins of Plymouth Encore would that be? Its a granny square baby blanket that would be crocheted. Thanks

A: 10 skeins x 90 yards = 900 yards. Plymouth Encore has 200 yards in each skein, so you would need 5 skeins (5 x 200 = 1000 yards). Hope this helps!

Asked by Ruthann Janosek, February 12, 2012 at 03:55:26 PM EST.
Q: I want to knit an afghan from DONE BY MONDAY, pattern 8 in the PlymouthYarn Design Studio pattern book. Bool 638. It calls for Encore knitting with two strands. My question: Could I use one strand of Encore Worsted and one Strand of Baby Alpaca? Would this be a good combination? If a different pattern in the book would be nicer using the above, please advise. Thank you.

A: We do not carry the pattern book that you are referring to so cannot check the pattern specifically. Generally speaking it sounds like the pattern is written for a chunky weight yarn gauge and achieves this result by holding two strands of the worsted weight Encore together for the project. If you use one strand of the worsted weight Encore yarn and one strand of the bulky weight Plymouth Baby Alpaca Grande the gauge will be heavier than the pattern calls for and your project will be a different finished size. If you would like additional feedback or assistance with your selection please feel free to contact us directly in the shop.

Q: I have several skeins of Encore #1405 - it's a light brown heather with touches of golds and teal. I don't see that # listed - is it still available or have they changed the number. I need about 10 skeins more.
