Mixed Fiber Lengthwise Shawl, Scarf OR Cowl 2011
Free Knitting Pattern
700 – 750 yards of novelty/non-novelty yarns (Shown in 1 skein EACH of Berroco Ultra Alpaca, Berroco Boboli, Filatura di Crosa Gioiello, and Galler Yarns Flore II yarns.)
Needles – size US 10 – 32" circular knitting needles.
Self Fringing Scarf or Cowl InstructionsCast on 44 stitches with Ultra Alpaca, leaving a 4" tail at the end.
Working in garter stitch, follow the yarn sequence (below) leaving a 4" tail at beginning and end of each color.
Tie tails together with an overhand knot to secure ends as you knit, before joining the next yarn.
Work until desired length and bind off loosely (we recommend either Ultra Alpaca or Boboli for the bind off). Optional Knotting of Fringe: Go back and tie 4 groups of ends together with overhand knot placed in the middle of the ends.
Lengthwise Self Fringing Shawl InstructionsCast on 160 stitches with Ultra Alpaca. Knit 1 row, cutting an 8" tail at the end.Add in yarns at random (or follow the yarn sequence below) cutting an 8" tail at BOTH ends of each row. Knit all rows.
Tie tails together with an overhand knot to make fringe.
Work until desired width and bind off loosely (we recommend either Ultra Alpaca or Boboli for the bind off).
