Super Bulky Button Hat
Free Knitting Pattern

2 skeins Malabrigo Chunky yarn (held doubled throughout)
Size 13 US knitting needles, 16" circular and double pointed
PM = place a stitch marker

Instructions
Yarn is used double stranded throughout.
With 2 strands of yarn, cast on 54 stitches. Working flat (do not join into a round yet) knit 10 rows.
Next row: bind off 7 stitches, knit to the end of the row, PM, and join into a round. (Button flap made.)
Knit every round until entire piece measures 6" from cast on.
Work decreases as follows:
Round 1: (K5, K2tog, PM) 3 times, (K4, K2tog, PM) once, (K5, K2tog, PM) 2 times, (K4, K2tog, PM) once.
Round 2: Knit
Round 3: Knit around, working a K2tog before each marker.
Round 4: Knit
Rounds 5, 6 & 7: work as round 3.
Round 8: (K2tog) 3 times, K1, (K2 tog) 2 times, K1.
Round 9: (K2tog) 3 times, K1.
Cut the yarn and thread it through the remaining stitches, draw up tightly and secure. Weave in ends. Sew a decorative button on the flap, and use the ends to seal the flap. The button is not functional.
