Socos Ribbed Hat
Free Knitting Pattern
87 yards bulky weight yarn. (Hat shown in 1 skein Ester Britan Socos yarn. This yarn has been discontinued. We recommend using Malabrigo Chunky yarn.)
Size 10.5 US needles both 16" circular and DP
Pattern Row: [(k1,p1) 3 times, k5] 5 times
With circular needle, cast on 55 stitches. Place marker and join into a round, being careful not to twist. Work pattern row (above) until hat measures 6" from cast on edge.
Start decrease rounds as follows:
- Round 1: (k1,p1) 3 times, ssk, k2, k2tog, [p1, (k1,p1) 2 times, ssk, k2, k2tog] 4 times **Note: on the last k2tog, you will be knitting the last stitch of the round together with the first stitch of the next round. Move your marker and re-place it after this k2tog. (45 st)
- Rounds 2: knit
- Round 3: [p1,(k1,p1) 2 times, ssk, k2tog] 5 times (35 st)
- Round 4: [p1,(k1,p1) 2 times, ssk] 5 times (30 st)
- Round 5: [k2tog, p1, ssk, k1] 5 times (20 st)
- Round 6: [k1, p2tog, k1] 5 times (15 st)
- Round 7: k1, p1, [k1, p2tog] 4 times, k1 (11 st)
Cut yarn leaving a 6" tail and pull through remaining stitches. Weave in ends.
