Size 9 US needles, 16" circular and DP

Gauge: 5 sts = 1"

Ribbing Band
Cast on 23 stitches.

Row 1: (WS) (p2, k2) repeat to last 3 st, p3.
Row 2: (RS) k3, (p2, k2) repeat to end.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until band measures 19". Bind off in established pattern. Seam so your right side faces outward.

Hat

Pick up 92 stitches along the top of the ribbing band (the top is the k3 section). Place a marker and knit each round until work measures 6.5" with the lower rib slightly stretched, decreasing 2 stitches evenly over last row (90 sts). Begin decreases as follows:

Row 1: (k8, k2tog) repeat to end. (81sts)
Row 2: knit
Row 3: (k7, k2tog) repeat to end. (72sts)
Row 4: knit
Row 5: (k6, k2tog) repeat to end. (63sts)
Row 6: knit
Row 7: (k5, k2tog) repeat to end. (54sts)
Row 8: (k4, k2tog) repeat to end. (45sts)
Row 9: (k3, k2tog) repeat to end. (36 sts)
Row 10: (k2, k2tog) repeat to end. (27sts)
Row 11: (k1, k2tog) repeat to end. (18sts)
Row 12: (k2tog) repeat to end. (9sts)

Cut yarn leaving an 8" tail and pull through remaining stitches. Weave in ends.
