Size 10.5 needles in 16" circular and double pointed
Earflaps (make 2)
Cast on 3 stitches.
(WS) Purl 1 row
(RS) k1, m1r, k to last st, m1l, k1 (RS increase row) (5 sts)
Purl 1 row. Knit 1 row.
P1, m1, p to last st, m1, p1. (WS increase row) (7sts)
Knit 1 row. Purl 1 row.
Work RS increase row. (9 sts)
Purl 1 row. Knit 1 row.
Work WS increase row. (11 sts)
Knit 1 row. Purl 1 row.
Work RS increase row. (13 sts)
Purl 1 row. Knit 1 row.
Work WS increase row. (15 sts)
Knit 1 row. Purl 1 row.
Work RS increase row. (17 sts)
Purl 1 row. Knit 1 row. Purl 1 row. Knit 1 row. Purl 1 row.
Place stitches on a holder.
Hat
Knit across 17 stitches of first earflap. Turn work and using the cable cast on method, cast on 20 sts. Turn work and knit across 17 stitches of second earflap. Turn work and cast on 10 sts. Turn work, place marker and join into a round. (64 sts)
Knit each round until hat measures 4" from brim cast on.
Shape Crown (switch to dp needles as needed)
(K6, k2tog) repeat (56 sts)
Knit 3 rounds.
(K5, k2tog) repeat (48 sts)
Knit 2 rounds.
(K4, k2tog) repeat (40 sts)
Knit 2 rounds.
(K3, k2tog) repeat (32 sts)
Knit 1 round.
(K2, k2tog) repeat (24 sts)
Knit 1 round.
(K1, k2tog) repeat (16 sts)
Knit 1 round.
(K2 tog) repeat (8 sts)
Cut yarn leaving 6-8" tail. Draw through remaining stitches to close. Weave in ends.
Finishing
With a double strand of the angora, work one row of single crochet along the entire bottom edge of the hat and earflaps. Then turn and work one row of crab stitch (backwards single crochet).
