25 yards each fingering weight yarn contrast colors CC1 and CC2
Shown in 1 skein Tilli Tomas Elsie(discontinued) (MC) and 2 skeins Tilli Tomas Planet Earth Beads(discontinued) (CC1 and CC2).
Size 6 and 4 US needles (double pointed)
One size.
Instructions
With size 6 needles and Elsie yarn (MC), cast on 77 stitches. Being careful not to twist, join into a round. With MC, knit 1 round.
• With CC1, knit 1 round and then purl 1 round. Cut CC1.
• Knit 1 round with MC.
• With CC2, knit 1 round and then purl 1 round. Cut CC2.
• With MC, knit until hat meaures 5.5" inches from cast on row.
Start decreases as follows:
Round 1: (Knit 5, K2 tog) repeat (66 st)
Round 2: (Knit 4, k2tog) repeat (55 st)
Round 3: (Knit 3, k2tog) repeat (44 st)
Round 4: (Knit 2, k2tog) repeat (33 st)
Round 5: (Knit 1, k2tog) repeat (22 st)
Round 6: (K2tog) repeat (11 st)
Round 7: Knit 5, k2tog, knit 4 (10 st)
Top Edging
**Take one of the 10 remaining stitches and slip it onto a size 4 double pointed needle. Using the knitted cast on method and CC1, cast on 18 stitches to the right of this stitch (19st).
• Knit in the front and the back of each stitch (38 stitches)
• Bind off in purl.**
Repeat from ** to ** for each of the remaining 9 stitches, alternating which CC you use. Weave in ends and be sure to draw the top of the hat together at the base of the beaded edging. Block if necessary.
